Massachusetts health care — wonky, with a healthy dose of reality

California Health Reform Plan Is Dead

California Health Reform Plan Is Dead

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Assembly Speaker Fabio Nunez throwing in the towel after the Senate Health Committee voted 7-1 against with 3 abstentions. Condolences and congrats to our friends and allies at Health Access California who acted with principle and integrity throughout the lengthy reform process. We wish, for everyone in California and around the country, that policy and political leaders in California had found a way to bridge differences and make something happen. They had a much, much higher hill to climb than we have had in Massachusetts on our most difficult days. Tough that a plan to cover between 3.5 and 5 million uninsured California's died in a Democratic-controlled Senate.

Those for whom health reform is an all-or-nothing proposition got nothing.
