New Blog Feature: Your Weekly Dose of Helpline Happenings

August 7, 2008

Today we begin a new feature on the blog that will highlight the voices of real people that contact our Helpline every day. Once a week you will be introduced to a family whose life has changed for the better due to health reform. If you or anyone you know needs assistance applying for free or low-cost health care coverage, please contact our Helpline at 1-800-272-4232. Now for this week’s story:

Ludlow residents Chris* and Lynn* have recently had to cut a lot of expenses out of their budget due to their out-of-pocket health insurance costs. Chris has been working two part-time jobs in addition to his full-time job in order to pay $272 each week for the unsubsidized health insurance offered his primary employer. The family had to get rid of one of their cars and Lynn even had to leave her job since gas was costing her too much to get to work. Chris has been biking the nine miles to his job to save money on gas.

Chris and Lynn say that Commonwealth Care is going to help them to financially get back on their feet. It will alleviate the burden of Chris having to work two extra jobs to pay health insurance premiums. Lynn also says that she hopes to get back to her job now that there will be more money available for her commute.
