Watch: Federal HHS Video Highlights HCFA Phone-A-Thon
On September 29th, 2010, the “got coverage? Health Coverage For Kids and Teens” campaign launched a Phone-A-Thon to enroll children. This was HCFA’s first ever event of this type, and it was a resounding success. To put this day into perspective, HCFA’s HelpLine typically enrolls between 50 to 75 children over a period of three months. As a result of the Phone-A-Thon, 300 new children were enrolled into health coverage - in one day! This initiative was so successful that it caught the attention of the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS produced a film on our phone-a-thon for their Outreach Video Library, part of their efforts to promote health coverage for children.
In 2010, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius launched the Connecting Kids to Coverage initiative (InsureKidsNow.gov), a five-year campaign that challenged federal officials, states, governors, mayors, community organizations, faith leaders, and other individuals to find and enroll 5 million children in Medicaid and CHIP. Many efforts have been put into place as part of the Connecting Kids to Coverage campaign and, recently, CMS decided to showcase a series of videos highlighting different initiatives aimed at making a difference in children’s health. Six states were highlighted for their innovative efforts. The other states to share the spotlight were Oregon, Rhode Island, Iowa, Michigan, and Oklahoma.
A special thanks goes to our “got coverage? Health Coverage For Kids and Teens” campaign working group members who helped to shape and promote the Phone-A-Thon.
