Connecting People to Coverage

Hundreds of MetroWest residents gathered at Fuller Middle School in Framingham on rainy Saturday, January 16th, seeking health care coverage enrollment and navigation assistance. Health Care For All's "Grand Enrollment Event" featured more than 70 HCFA staff and volunteers, including Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking health insurance Navigators and Certified Application Counselors. Volunteers helped 154 individuals to enroll in health care coverage, 107 of whom were uninsured upon arriving to the event.

State Senator Karen Spilka as well as State Representatives Chris Walsh and Carmine Gentile welcomed participants. Chris Walsh; Dr. Milagros Abreu, President/Founder, Latino Health Insurance Program; Mr. Michael Hugo, Esq., Chair, Framingham Board of Health; Ms. Edna Smith, Chair, Community Health Network Area # 7; State Rep. Carmine Gentile; and Amy Whitcomb Slemmer, Executive Director, Health Care For All.

 The "Grand Enrollment Event" was a part of a larger Open Enrollment effort conducted by HCFA, the Health Connector, and MassHealth, as well as numerous community organizations and health care providers statewide.
