Hundreds of Thousands of Massachusetts Residents Could Lose Access to Coverage and Care if Obacamare is Deemed Unconstitutional
On July 9th, oral arguments begin at the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for the case of Texas v. United States. This lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the individual mandate, and with it, the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA). The case was brought by a group of Attorneys General in 2018 after Congress zeroed out the federal individual mandate penalty in the tax reform bill passed in December 2017. The lawsuit is now also being backed by the White House and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey joined with a group of Attorneys General who signed on to defend the ACA from this lawsuit. Health Care For All is teaming up with AG Healey and partner organizations for a press conference this coming Tuesday, July 9th at 10:30AM to stand up to this latest attack on the ACA.
