Success Stories from the HelpLine

February 2016 Newsletter...

Each year, counselors at our HelpLine receive thousands of calls from Massachusetts residents with questions about their health coverage. These are two of their stories…

“A caller thought that he and his wife had insurance through their employee. In reality, they had been uninsured for six months. He needed surgery and was told that he would be responsible for the entire medical bill. His wife was also ill. After he called HCFA, I was able to help them to apply for insurance. They were eligible for MassHealth CarePlus. Now, they don't have to worry about their bills."

"This week I spoke with a caller who is pregnant. She explained that she had filled out an ACA paper application two months ago but never received a letter stating her eligibility. After having called many places, she called us. She wanted to see a doctor to make sure that her pregnancy was healthy. I called the Connector Assister Line to find out about her case. The Connector told us that she was eligible for the Connector but had never enrolled - and that they didn't have the information about her pregnancy. We were able to update this information. She was eligible for MassHealth Standard and now is able to see a doctor for prenatal care."
